Loving God
How is your relationship with the Lord?
What is your hope and longing for it to be?
What can you say ‘no’ to, to allow room for more time with Him and to move you forward in your desire?
The Lord promises that when we seek His Kingdom and righteousness first, he will give us all the things we need as well.
Remember that the Lord looks forward to meeting with you every day. If you have a regular time alone with Him, He will be waiting for you.
Some suggestions for spending time with God:
- Write down distractions: so you can come back to those things later and concentrate on God.
- Thanksgiving: for general things such as a bright sunny day, trees and flowers, family and friends, His loving kindness; past answers to prayers; spiritual and physical blessings; even hardships as these are taken and used by God for good, for your character development and training.
- If you want to be more positive in your outlook, try writing a gratitude journal to focus on the good things that have happened.
- Go for a walk and talk to Him about what’s on your heart, or give Him thanks for what you see and hear, or praise Him as you see Him in creation.
- Praise: select a theme about God and declare it to Him eg. God you are good. You could lookup some verses about this and speak them out to Him.
- Wait in silence: focus on Him and His love generally and for you specifically, and your love for Him. Listen to what He says to you.
- Watch a movie or read a book with Him, or do something you enjoy, keeping aware that He is with you, and see what he shows you, converse with Him.
- Sing and dance or play an instrument: of your own song; or by listening to a song; or reading/listening to some scripture; or singing in your God given language(s). Be led by Holy Spirit.
- Sing your prayer, or use movement to express your prayer to God.
- Speak in your God given language(s): either generally or over a specific request.
- Confession: ask Holy Spirit to search your heart for unconfessed sin. Confess it. Forgive others too.
- Dream interpretation: ask Holy Spirit to interpret any dreams He has given you.
- Watch: be alert to what is going on. Pray about prophetic words God has given you or others about things happening personally, locally, nationally or internationally. Pray about news items. Pray for nations.
- Intercession: listen to Holy Spirit to know what to pray for and how to pray, eg. pray for those who don’t know Jesus yet or for a specific need in someone’s life.
- Scripture: follow a Bible in one year programme or daily reading. Pray verses and promises. Link them to requests.
- Meditate: Choose a theme / scripture verse or passage. Ask God questions. Ask Holy Spirit to give you related scriptures and revelation. Read verse(s) repeatedly and slowly. Ponder it.
- Declarations: declare truths that are relevant to your situation or general truths of encouragement.
- Petition: Tell Him each need and listen for His answer. Thank Him for what He will do.
- Keep a prayer journal so you can write down what you see God doing in those requests. Thank Him for what He’s doing or done.
- Solutions: Tell God about problems and ask for His perspective. Search Scriptures. Write down His ideas.
- Journal: listen to the Lord and write down what He says to you. Write down anything he impresses upon you, eg. revelation from reading the Word of God.
- End with praise and thanksgiving again: Focus on His power / authority / greatness / presence so you can rejoice that He has heard your prayers prayed in accordance with His will and so He will act on your behalf. Amen!
